Ski holidays from the Grau Roig base station.
Grau Roig is located centrally on the Grandvalira ski region and consists of a base station, car park, ski lifts and restaurants and a sole hotel. Grau Roig as such is rarely used as a base for a ski holiday, but instead acts as an ideal entry point to the Grandvalira ski region for those arriving by car.
Grau Roig is actually slightly higher than Pas de la Casa which is located just over the ridge on the French border but offers a more sheltered ski area with more tree-cover. Most visitors to Grau Roig arrive via car on day trips, with accommodation in Grau Roig limited to just one hotel. Ski lifts leave Grau Roig in the direction of both Pas de la Casa and Soldeu and the area has an interesting and impressive kids ski area, with a themed ski piste that is reserved for kids and their accompanying parents. The skiing out of Grau Roig is typically suited to beginners and intermediates but ski safaris are possible in either direction and for skiers and snow boarders of basic intermediate standard, then a great deal of terrain can be covered in either direction.
